Scottish Egg Producer Retailers Association
Press Release
For Immediate Release 18th March 2004
SCOTLAND IS CLEAR OF SALMONELLA IN EGGS
The Food Standards Agency have recently completed and published their survey on UK produced eggs. Samples were taken at retail level and tested for
Salmonella, in particular they were looking for Salmonella Enteriditis.
Scottish egg producers are delighted with the results as I am sure will be the Scottish public as NO salmonellas were found in either the egg or on the shell. It has only come to light that Scottish eggs have all been tarred with the one
UK brush.
We hope with this survey and the realisation that no human cases of S E have been reported in Scotland in the past three years, that advice given by the Chief medical Officer will be reviewed particularly the advice given to the vulnerable. The current advice of fully
cooking eggs destroys much of the nutritious value, especially valuable to expectant mothers.
